US rules out formal bilateral meetings with N.Korea
( 2003-08-28 08:36) (Agencies)

The United States said on Thursday it would not hold formal bilateral meetings with North Korea at talks in China aimed at ending the North Korean nuclear crisis.

"Assistant Secretary (of State James) Kelly had an informal exchange with North Korean representatives in the plenary meeting at the end of the day," a U.S. Embassy spokeswoman told reporters in Beijing, referring to the first day of six-way talks Wednesday.

"There will not be any separate formal bilateral meetings with the North Koreans."
