Food poisoning sends 24 to hospital in Hunan
( 2003-08-15 10:17) (Xinhua)

A probable food poisoning outbreak resulted in the hospitalization of 24 people after they ate food from a supermarket in Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan Province on Thursday.

The victims suffered stomachache, diarrhea and vomiting after eating dried bean curd, a popular local snack, sold in bulk at the same supermarket in the city's Yuelu District, Wednesday evening.

Li Dawei, a doctor with the Number Four Hospital of Changsha City, said that the victims' symptoms showed that it was possibly a food poisoning incident.

Doctors said 10 victims had recovered and left hospital while the others were in stable condition, still receiving treatment.

The cause of the incident was still under investigation.
