A total of 77 construction projects have been granted the national awards for projects that do well in environmental protection, the State Environmental Protection Administration announced Monday.

The projects involve around 20 different industries, including food, medicine, transportation and chemicals.

It is the first time that the Chinese Government has given awards to construction projects for their sound work in environmental protection.

The 77 projects have reasonable designs for environmental protection, their environmental protection facilities are working soundly, and daily environmental management in the projects is conducted perfectly, said Zhu Xingxiang, vice-director of the supervision and management department of the administration.

He said the awards aim to encourage project managers to strengthen their work in environmental protection in the process of designing, constructing and running their projects.

It will also help arouse awareness of environmental protection among the general public and strengthen public supervision over construction projects, he said.

All of the projects that have named for the awards will get a medal and certificate, he added.

Projects that may have impact on the environment must prepare environmental impact reports.
