Charges cut to develop port trade ( 2003-07-08 07:33) (China Daily)
Fuzhou, capital of East China's Fujian Province, has cut the charges for a
range of port services to support foreign trade and shipping companies.
The Fuzhou city government said in a notice issued last Friday that charges
for seven types of service would be cut or abolished completely at the Jiangyin
and Qingzhou container wharves. The changes involve the sea-route construction
fund, harbour service fees for internal trade in goods and container tug-boat
charges.
Container ships entering the Jiangyin wharf, which opened to international
shipping companies in March, will get preferential reductions or exemptions.
To promote the development of the newly opened wharf, the Fuzhou city
government also decided to lift the expressway and bridge tolls on vehicles
transporting containers for export. The expenses will be covered by the city
government and by the Sino-Singaporean joint venture Jiangyin Container Wharf Co
Ltd.
In the first five months of this year, the overall throughput at Fuzhou port
reached 18.08 million tons, a year-on-year rise of 21 per cent.
