Two US soldiers killed in Baghdad attacks ( 2003-07-07 15:22) (Agencies) Two US soldiers were killed in two fresh attacks
in the Iraqi capital Baghdad overnight, the US military said on Monday.
A spokesman said one soldier was killed while a patrol was pursuing Iraqi
gunmen in the Azamiyah neighbourhood of Baghdad. An Iraqi gunman was killed and
another wounded in the clash.
The second US soldier was killed when a rocket-propelled grenade hit his
vehicle in the district of Kadhimiya.
The latest US troop deaths in what have become daily attacks in the past few
weeks came after a soldier was shot and fatally wounded at Baghdad University on
Sunday.
Four US soldiers were wounded in an ambush with rocket-propelled grenades on
Sunday night in Ramadi, a volatile town about 100 km (60 miles) west of Baghdad.
Witnesses in Ramadi said US troops shot dead two Iraqi civilians in a car.
On Saturday, seven recruits to a US-backed Iraqi police force were killed in
Ramadi when a remote-controlled bomb exploded outside a police station where
they had just graduated from police training.
The attacks against US-led occupying forces have become increasingly bold and
sophisticated, more than two months after US President George W. Bush declared
major combat over on May 1 after toppling Saddam Hussein in April.
