Tianjin reports big rise in overseas business

The municipality of Tianjin in north China contracted US$174 million of overseas projects during the January-May period, a 46 percent rise year on year.

The city reaped US$157 million in turnover from its overseas projects during the five-month period, up 34 percent from a year earlier.

In May alone, the city sent 1,791 people to work overseas, up 24.5 percent from the same month of last year.

From January to May, the city set up 23 enterprises and organizations abroad, involving US$33.15 million in total investment, up 83 percent from a year before.

Tianjin has engaged in six overseas resources-developing projects and the number is increasing.

The local ocean fishing company invested US$1.6 million in fishery in Peru following similar projects in Argentina and Fiji.
