Russian tennis star Anna Kournikova withdrew from the $170,000 Warsaw Cup tournament while trailing to compatriot Svetlana Kuznetsova on Tuesday.

Kournikova, who was once a top-10 ranked player, retired due to dehydration and leg cramps while trailing 5-2 in the third after the pair had shared the first two sets.

Kournikova, seeded third for the tournament, won the first set 6-4 and was headed for victory before suffering from cramps.

Kuznetsova then took the second set by the same score and was ahead 5-2 in the final set before Kournikova retired.

Trainers were seen massaging Kournikova's right shoulder during the match though she did not attend the post-match news conference and more details about her injury were not immediately clear.
