Reunification of motherland to be realized - Ma Man Kei

The reunification of the motherland will certainly be realized following efforts made by all the Chinese, a senior official said in Macao on Friday.

Ma Man Kei, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said that the principle of "one country, two systems" is completely feasible in Taiwan.

Ma made the remarks at a symposium marking the 7th anniversary of an important speech delivered by President Jiang Zemin on the reunification of the motherland.

The president's speech entitled "Continue to Promote the Reunification of the Motherland", stating eight views and propositions on the development of relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits, has received warm welcome and active response, Ma said.

He said that the principle of "one country, two systems" takes into consideration the fundamental interests of the Taiwan compatriots and addresses the demand from the Taiwan people to retain the life reality. "Hong Kong and Macao compatriots are satisfied with the principle, and the international society has also praised it."

The Taiwan authorities will find no way out if they continue to walk on the independence route, Ma said.

The symposium was sponsored by the Macao Daily News, attended by people from every walk of life in Macao and officials from the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region.
