Just call him Steven Knievel Spielberg. Filmmaker Steven Spielberg has been walking with a leg brace and crutches since taking a minor spill on his motor scooter while on vacation at his home in the Hamptons on New York's Long Island last weekend, his publicist said on Friday.

The Oscar-winning director deliberately "took a jump" on the scooter then fell off the bike, badly twisting his right knee, spokesman Marvin Levy said.

Spielberg, who turns 55 later this month, suffered no broken bones or head injuries, and it appears his knee will heal without surgery, Levy said. In addition to wearing the knee-to-ankle brace, he is undergoing physical therapy.

Spielberg has since returned to work in Los Angeles and is "back doing just about all the things he needs to do. He's just not as mobile," Levy said.
