Boat accident kills 8, one child missing in Southwest China

Eight people were killed and a child remains missing after the overloaded boat they on board capsized Sunday on a lake in Tonghai County, southwest China's Yunnan Province.

According to local sources, the boat full of sight-seers on Qilu Lake sank about 100 meters from the bank. Eight people were reported dead, four were rescued from the water, and an elementary school student is still missing.

Sources indicate that the 13 people were on a pleasure trip around Qilu Lake, 1.5 kilometers away from the county, after attending a marriage banquet.

A rescue team organized by the local government is still searching for the missing child.
