7月23日发生在浙江温州的动车追尾事故是近几年来中国最严重的列车事故之一，迄今它已夺去至少39人的生命，致使190余人受伤。而在这场悲剧的救援过程中，长期以来被视为具有商业头脑，面对商场竞争冷酷无情的温州人表现出极大的温暖和勇气， 最新一期《浙江周刊》封面故事报道。

市民无论老少，无论是本地人还是来自浙东南其他城市的居民，都迅速做出反应，或把受伤乘客从车体残骸中解救出来，或去血站献血，或把伤者送往当地医院。

事故发生后，温州市宣布急需血浆救治受伤乘客，几小时之内就有数千人前往血站。随后，在周日晚，更多的人聚集起来哀悼事故中的遇难者，为他们的在天之灵和家人祈福。

“我听说了事故的消息，今天一早来做志愿者”，24岁的金荣（音）说，事故发生之后的周日，他一直等在医院的接待区。他说，他要想办法确保受伤的人有人陪伴。

在相当长的一段时间里，和温州相关事件的报道，媒体对于温州居民，尤其是那些在一段时间购入大量地产以转售获得巨大利益的人，总有一点偏见。他们的做法或许被一些人蔑视，许多人看到他们为了赚钱而操纵中国房产市场，却忽视了他们这种行为对国家和地方经济的影响。温州商人至少要为终将破灭的房产泡沫负一部分责任。

然而，他们的形象在上周末的这场悲剧中有所改观，有社会学家指出，温州市民的慈善举动更多地表达了他们人性的一面，提高了城市声誉。

“温州人有很强的商业头脑”，复旦大学社会学教授顾晓明表示，“现在他们从灾难的处理方式中，充分证明了他们极大的责任感，这将在以后的商业往来中为他们带来新的竞争优势。”

周日，一位姓沈的当地人在用新车在血站穿梭接送献血的人，他说，通过这场悲剧，以往对温州人精明，势利的成见将得以改观。“大众往往对温州人都很一种钱堆子，唯利是图的成见，但其实我们也是十分有爱心的，乐于关心别人。”（记者王政华，吴怡瑶）

The incredible ways that Wenzhou residents responded to the latest disaster to hit China’s much-maligned public transport system has given them a rare opportunity to show their caring side, Wang Zhenghua and Wu Yiyao report.

 The people of Wenzhou, long viewed as business savvy and even merciless when confronting commercial rivals, have shown great warmth and courage in the aftermath of one of the worst accidents to hit the region in recent years, a high-speed train crash that claimed the lives of at least 39 passengers and injured 190 on July 23.

Young and old, local and otherwise migrated to this southeastern city in Zhejiang, people responded immediately by carrying the wounded from the wreckage, making donations at blood collection sites and ferrying the injured to local hospitals.

Thousands headed to donation stations within hours of the train crash as the city announced that transfusions may be urgently needed to treat the wounded. Later on Sunday evening, thousands more gathered to mourn those who died and sent silent prayers to their spirits and families.

“I heard the news about the accident and I came to volunteer early this morning,” said 24-year-old Jing Rong, who was waiting in the reception area of a hospital on Sunday after the accident. “I want to make sure that the injured are not alone and in pain.”

For a considerable time, coverage of Wenzhou-related events in national media outlets has tended to be somewhat prejudiced against its residents, especially those well-financed groups who purchase numerous properties at a time and re-sell them for a huge profit.

They were somewhat despised, with many seeing the real-estate speculators as indicative of a broader trend of manipulating property markets in China for personal gain, but with no regard for the repercussions of their actions on the local or national economies. As such, the Wenzhou groups were held at least partly responsible for a growing bubble in the property sector that is expected to break eventually.

However their image has been softened in the days following last weekend’s tragedy, with prominent sociologists saying residents’charitable actions shows their humanitarian sides and will enhance the city’s reputation. “People from Wenzhou have a very strong business sense,” said Gu Xiaoming, a sociologist at Fudan University. “Now they have also demonstrated their great sense of responsibility, in the way that they have handled this tragedy, and this could give them a new competitive edge in their future business dealings.”

One local man with the surname Shen said it was about time to smash the stereotype of a city of heartless financial moguls as he shuttled donors to a local blood station in his brand new car.

“There is a certain fixed idea about Wenzhou locals all being rich and materialistic, but we can also be a very loving and caring people,” he said.
