The Great Hall of the People and the Monument to the People's Heroes ranked high on the list, and are both landmarks of China. It only took ten months to finish the construction of the Great Hall of the People from 1958 to 1959, making it a wonder in Chinese architectural history.

Some old buildings in universities found their way onto the list as well, such as the No.1-No.3 dormitory buildings and library in Tsinghua University, the Red Building (hong lou) in Peking University, and the main building in Tianjin University.

The list also included two hospitals in Beijing, aside from historical museums, hotels and bridges. One is Beijing Xiehe Hospital and its affiliated hospital, and the other Beijing Children's Hospital.
