Brits trail as French and Aussies strike

China Daily | Updated: 2011-03-25 08:12

APELDOORN, Netherlands - Olympic track cycling king Britain confirmed its focus is fully on London 2012 when it failed to strike gold on the first day of the world track cycling championships on Wednesday.

Australia and France meanwhile won one gold apiece - in the men's Olympic events of team pursuit and team sprint - as Belarus and Hong Kong also struck gold on the opening day.

Australia and France will be among Britain's few authentic rivals once the track competition gets underway in London next August, and going on their respective performances, the Olympic host should have plenty to chew on.
