A German devotee follows his passion to Foshan

By Chen Limin | China Daily | Updated: 2011-03-23 07:59

FOSHAN, Guangdong - "Everybody said I am crazy." That's to be expected when a 25-year-old German packs up and moves to China in his quest for what he considers true kungfu.

Massoud Ashuftah studied Wing Chun under five teachers in Germany, but felt he couldn't reach the essence of the discipline there. So four months ago, he found himself an apartment in Foshan, home to the Wing Chun style, and became a full-time disciple.

He spends five hours a day, six days a week, practicing Wing Chun. It's only during the weekends that Ashuftah, a former interpreter for the US army, leaves the martial arts club for some part-time work.
