Golf World Cup to become biennial event next year

China Daily | Updated: 2010-03-17 07:55

BEIJING - The Omega Mission Hills World Cup will return to the international golfing calendar in 2011 as a biennial event, the International Federation of PGA Tours, the International Golf Association (IGA), Omega and Mission Hills jointly announced on Monday.

The event, which be held in every odd year and boasts a record prize fund of $7.5 million, will be staged at a brand new venue at the Mission Hills Resort on Hainan in Southern China from Nov 24-27 next year.

The repositioning of the Omega Mission Hills World Cup, which was played at Mission Hills Shenzhen between 2007 and 2009, as a biennial event follows last year's decision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to reintroduce golf to the Olympic movement from 2016.
