Kidnapper seizes girl to sell to friend

By Zhao Yanrong | China Daily | Updated: 2010-03-16 07:55

A four-year-old girl was returned to her parents after she was kidnapped for 20 hours from the Beijing Children's Hospital on Friday. The suspect is now in police detention and the case is under investigation.

A man surnamed Yan and his wife, both from Hebei province, reported their daughter, Xiaoli, missing to Xicheng police at 9:15 pm on Sunday. She had been receiving medical treatment on the second floor of the emergency department at Beijing Children's Hospital when she was kidnapped, a press release from the police reported.

Images from a surveillance camera in the hospital showed a man in his late 30s with a brown jacket staring at Xiaoli and her mother for around four minutes, while they were sleeping on a couch in the hospital. The man then picked Xiaoli up and walked straight out of the hospital at 8:53 pm.
