Crime gang members caged for up to 20 years

Members of a 10-person gang who went on a crime spree across 10 Beijing districts that included rape and theft have been jailed by Changping district court for terms ranging from 15 months to 20 years.

The court handed out the sentences on last Thursday for the 56 crimes committed by the gang and disclosed its decision on Tuesday.

Ou Chunguang, the presiding judge, said the court decided to publicize the case during the annual session of National People's Congress in Beijing, in an attempt to send a message to criminals and help secure a safe capital.
