Crime rate falls again

Crime in Japan, which prides itself on its safety, fell for a sixth straight year in 2008 although the number of random attacks nearly doubled, police said yesterday.

Despite a recession and rising unemployment, criminal cases investigated by Japanese police fell 4.7 percent from a year earlier, the National Police Agency said.
