Updated: 2008-07-01 07:56 "111" 计划 (111 jihua) Project 111 A project for Chinese universities to entice top scholars and researchers from abroad and promote the country's progresses in science and technology. Targeting at luring one thousand talents from the world's top one hundred universities to establish about one hundred research bases in Chinese universities, the project gets the three ones in its name. Launched in 2005 by the Ministry of Education and the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, the project focuses on nurturing the capability of independent innovation of these bases as well as the Chinese universities by benefiting from the world-class scholars. The bases receive financial aid from the State and are subject to supervision. By the end of 2008, the 100 bases should be established and operate for about five years.
