Boost for tourism

China will now start to receive individual foreign tourists, Han Kehua, director of the National Tourism Administration, said. He was speaking at a tourism conference in Zhouxian county, Hebei Province yesterday.

According to preliminary estimates individual tourists will account for 20 to 30 per cent of the total tourists to China by 1990 and this will rise to 30 to 40 per cent by the end of this century, he said.

Farmers' new interest

Farmers are more interested in things of the spirit today. That was shown at the first exhibition of painting, calligraphy and photography sponsored by the Beijing Farm Managing Bureau, which has just ended at the Gulou (Drum Tower) Exhibition Hall of the Eastern District Cultural Centre in Beijing.
