Winners at Venice Film Festival

VENICE: The 63rd Venice Film Festival ended on Saturday, with the coveted Golden Lion award for the best picture going to China's "Still Life."

Following are the main winners and, where relevant, what they said:

Best film:

"Still Life" (China)

Best director:

Alain Resnais for "Private Fears in Public Places" (France)

Festival "revelation"

"Golden Door" ("Nuovomondo") (Italy)

Jury prize:

"Daratt" (Chad)

Best actor

Ben Affleck for "Hollywoodland" (United States)

Best actress:

Helen Mirren for "The Queen" (Britain)

Best screenplay:

Peter Morgan for "The Queen"

Others:

US film maker Spike Lee's four-hour documentary on Hurricane Katrina, "When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts" won the best documentary prize in the Horizons section of the competition, beating another popular contender "The US vs John Lennon."
