Have Western-style fun(urbanatomy.com)

The Big Bamboo chain now extends its reach even further into the 'burbs, so that Jinqiao residents and nearby Pudongers can partake in its unique brand of chilled out, Western-style merrymaking. The Thursday Mexican special featuring Margaritas, sangria and Coronas (RMB 30 each), and six jugs of sangria or six buckets of Coronas for RMB 150, certainly hits the spot after a grueling day slaving over spreadsheets. And the mahogany glow, comfy booths and ESPN broadcasts on flatscreen TV make the place a veritable home from home, at least for crowds of male expats entwined with mini-skirted waitresses. Indeed, this reviewer, though wearing pants, was mistaken for a staff member by one customer all too eager to show off his wad of cash. Big Bamboo targets-and serves well-one demographic, but it is perhaps carving its ever-growing niche too narrowly. Big Bamboo (Jingqiao) |
