Beijing Ladies Golf was started by some Canadian and British expat women, just for the love of golf. They run the range from beginners to really good players.

How did the club get started?

It was started by some Canadian and British expat women, just for the love of golf. We run the range from beginners with some course experience to really good players.

Cart it or carry it?

There are caddies here. You aren’t allowed to carry it! There are women caddies here in Beijing, which is actually quite different.

Has the club expanded since you started?

Golf is growing really quickly. Five years ago it was twelve women -- Last year we ended up with 154 members. You can’t take 150 people out to golf at the same time! Actually, our home course is the Beijing Country Club, and they're able to facilitate all of us. We organize games every Thursday, and a charity tournament, this year to benefit breast cancer.

Are men allowed in the charity tournament?

Only if they wear pink and a skirt. Any moments you’ll never forget? Once, my partner and I were having a closest-to-the-pin competition. We tried to measure with the flagstick, but it was too close, so my partner actually lay down on the green to measure it! We can be quite competitive.

Who was closer?

I was!

I encourage everyone who’s interested in golf to come out --- we’re competitive, but we’re also very social. We bite, but not too hard!
