For Japanese expats(urbanatomy.com)

With locations in Hongqiao and Gubei, Shokodu caters to Japanese expats looking for a quick, inexpensive meal. Indeed, this cafeteria-style restaurant serves typical Japanese comfort foods, so expect a variety of katsu meats (from RMB 12), fried potato croquettes (RMB 6) and cold vegetable plates (from RMB 8). While our chicken katsu curry (RMB 25) was unexceptional, we were impressed by the freshness of the agedashi tofu (RMB 10) and the light flavor of our cold braised eggplant (RMB 10). Shokodu also scores points for ambiance: on our visit, the monotonous tones of an NHK evening news broadcast were punctuated by the happy conversations of young families. In sum, this clean and cheery restaurant is a stand-out option for budget-friendly suburban fare. Mon-Fri 11am-2:30am; Sat-Sun 8:30am-2:30pm. |
