Spring is a nice time for playing basketball. Go and check out what the SIBL is doing.

When did you first get involved with SIBL?

Last summer a friend invited me to play with him at the ASAS pick-up games. I joined the well-named Pimp Juice team for the summer league.

Other than for the great team name, why’d you start playing in the SIBL?I really just wanted to find a fun and competitive league to play basketball and get some exercise somewhere other than on Shanghai club’s dancefloors.

Clubbing is exercise?Clubbing is by far the most popular sport here in Shanghai, but basketball is also an efficient way to socialize.

So what’s your most “MVP” move?I like all the ball handling stuff. I’ve been working on a move called “el latigo,” (the whip) which is a technical and vicious move. If well-executed, it destabilizes the defender because he has no clue where you’re going. If perfectly executed, it’s an ankle breaker. Sounds a bit advanced.

What’s a common b-ball rookie mistake?There are so many. Forgetting your jersey, going to the wrong gym or passing to your opponent because he called for the ball.

Seriously? You trick people?[Laughs] We love rookies.

After you trick the rookies, what’s your usual post-game activity?Games are usually on Sundays, so it’s all about relaxing. A massage after is a plus.

So, why should people grab sneakers and come play?Basketball is by far the coolest team sport because it’s simple and fun. No discrimination. If you girls can shoot a ball, join us.
