Red Beat Bar is the new 'it' spot for Filipinos, gay men, and Filipino gay men. And, it turns out, anyone looking to have a good time.

The seven-piece house band looked like a UN subcommittee – that is, if the world were run by high-energy teenyboppers with a penchant for costuming. But who are we kidding? We loved every minute of the show. Initially, we were sober enough to wince at the sexy rendition of U2's "One" – we'd never before heard the word "leper" sung with a seductive trill – but after a few favorable Grey Goose gimlets (RMB 50), we were ready to dance.

And the band was happy to oblige, with disco classics like "Dancing Queen" and "It's Raining Men" and enough audience participation to keep things interesting. Finally, Tongren Lu has a true destination bar.
