Updated: 2008-02-28 11:34 ![]() With a series of concerts planned for each of the four seasons, the subtropical tourist island of Gulangyu in southeastern China's Fujian province will be inundated with a medley of world music throughout the year. Gulangyu will host its first-ever music week beginning in March, with each season being highlighted by an exotic musical ensemble, Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday. The project hails the island as an "Island of Music," Xinhua quoted its organizer as saying. Gulangyu has the distinction of housing China's only piano museum. Locals' exotic musical journey will begin with Russian music in March. American tunes are set to cool down the summer heat in early June. German melodies will be introduced in early September, and the year will be wrapped up to the sound of Japanese music in December. |
