Prices for wedding gowns will increase by 10 to 20 percent in 2008 in Shanghai as there will be an estimated 135,000 couples getting married in the city, said the local association of wedding planning industry.

As couples in the metropolis rush to getting married in the Olympic year, businesses are also keen on making a big profit. In the 13th International Wedding Photographic Equipment Exhibition just opened in Shanghai on Monday, over 400 wedding planning companies showcased their products.

The Shanghai-based Oriental Morning Post reported that among all the exhibited items, Olympic themed wedding suits drew the most attention.

A set of wedding gowns with sporting themes were displayed at an exhibition booth of a company from Taipei. "The price for this set is 16,800 yuan, around 2,349 US dollars. We have received many orders." a staff member from the company said.
