Ultra posh

(That's Shanghai)
Updated: 2008-02-14 14:03

This ultra-posh pool hall and bar offers serious players a full range of amenities, including powerful ventilation systems to filter second-hand smoke and, of course, meticulously kept and well-lit pool tables.

Friday and Saturday night games come with a steep (RMB 2,500) minimum table charge, but at other times, the charge is a far more reasonable RMB 98 per hour. Spectators can watch the game from the comfort of horseshoe-shaped sofas, while the mirrored walls and luxurious in the VIP rooms add a touch of swank. We despaired at the limited beer selection, though this is a minor fault, since Racks is not really a beer bar.

But nevertheless we enjoyed watching the sharks with a strongly-mixed whiskey sour (RMB 58). In sum, Racks is a place to show off your table skills and, perhaps, your credit limit.
