Low-price "Made in Shanghai" concerts has begin and the performances will cover traditional Chinese music, great classical composers, jazz and movie music.
The aim is to encourage young classical music lovers by offering great and affordable music.
Every Saturday afternoon at Shanghai Oriental Art Center, artists from the Shanghai National Music Orchestra will present Chinese traditional music concerts.
Tickets cost 50 yuan, 100 yuan and 180 yuan. Student tickets are priced at only 25 yuan.
Performances will feature the dizi (bamboo flute), pipa (four-string Chinese lute) and erhu (two-stringed bowed instrument); lectures may be presented.
Further, this year's Weekly Radio Concert, which began last Sunday at Shanghai Concert Hall, is also priced only at 30 to 50 yuan.
The concert series will run throughout the year, presenting themed concerts of Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Shanghai-flavored jazz and famous Oscar film music performed by major city orchestras twice a week. Shanghai Media Group's FM 94.7 will broadcast the performances live.
"The Weekly Radio Concert with low prices is gaining a lot of popularity these days among ordinary citizens," says Chen Jiezhang, director of SMG's radio entertainment center. "The series that began more than 20 years ago is now recognized as a brand program with Shanghai's own character."
