Eat dishes like in the moviesUpdated: 2007-12-17 10:31
People love watching movies. They like the beautiful actresses, handsome actors, touching dialogues, stylish fashions and the witty lines in the movies. Yet there is one more thing about movies that makes them worth our special attention-the delicious food. When the the characters on the screen eat in a scene, we as the audience can do a lot more than sit quietly watching them. Many of these delicious foods can be found in Beijing. We may not be able to live a big screen life, but at least we can sample big screen food. Youyizhan Hong Kong Tea Restaurant In the Mood for Love, a movie directed by Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai, tells a story of relationship between middle-aged men and women. In it, Hong Kong actress Maggie Cheung impresses viewers with her gorgeous Qipaos, while the famous Hong Kong street snack, wonton noodles, also plays a role in the movie as her favorite bite to eat. To find genuine Hong Kong wonton noodles in Beijing, Youyizhan Hong Kong Tea Restaurant is the place to visit. The noodles here are made from unfermented flour flown in from Hong Kong. The flour is then mixed with eggs, so the noodles made are smooth and chewy. The wontons taste even better, as the stuffing is made of fresh meat and each dumpling contains a sea shrimp also imported from Hong Kong. Youyizhan is a hot spot for Hong Kong movie fans, as it looks very similar to the tea restaurants that appear in Hong Kong movies. The chefs here are all experienced in cooking Cantonese dishes. The recommended ones include hongdou lao, a dessert made out of stewed red bean, fruits in season and milk, cuipi shaorou, steak, and shrimp balls which are marinated for four hours and then fried together with garlic paste.
