Still Yuyintang

(That's Shanghai)
Updated: 2007-12-13 10:45

With a small stage, plain black walls and crowd of local music lovers, Yuyintang's new home near Taishan Park (at the Yan'an Xi Lu metro station) captures the quintessential indie rock scene.

One of Shanghai's oldest live music houses, YYT's previous warehouse location on Longcao Lu was shut down in May because of licensing problems. It seems that the company has left its problems in the past: on our Saturday night visit, we found a friendly and intimate live music venue able to attract a small local crowd to its 'standing-room only' space.

A handwritten sign advertising "Drinks RMB 10" piqued our interest, but to our disappointment, Yuyintang was only serving room-temperature cans of Tsingdao (RMB 10).

Clearly, this spot is more about promoting local bands than selling local beer.
