Cheer Thai & Vietnamese Restaurant was an established eatery in Beijing before moving to its recently re-opened location near Jianguomen. A recent visit revealed its spicy and sour taste sensations remain just as tempting at the new venue. The restaurant has a small 1st floor space, which has two tables and a private room for 10 people, while the major dining area is on the 2nd floor. It is decorated with paintings of the Thai king and queen, as well as drawings from the two countries. The owner, a Chinese woman of Thai descent, said she imports all important seasonings and herbs from Thailand or Vietnam. The taste and seasoning of the dishes is just right to please the palates of customers, and most typical dishes from both Thai and Vietnamese cuisines are available. There is the delightfully fresh seafood & glass noodle salad, Thailand's nationally popular hot and sour prawn soup, Vietnamese crystal shrimp rolls, and curry chicken or beef.
Curry mixed vegetables with coconut sauce () is a wonderful combination of strong, pleasant flavors with coconut. Stir-fried kale with salted fish is a good accompaniment for rice. And for dessert, sago with coconut cream () served in fresh green palm leaves is a visually pleasing choice. Also try the satay chicken, beef or pork, or yellow red and green curries. Waitresses are all dressed in traditional Thai or Vietnamese costume. Average spending is 150 yuan per person. Menu in both Chinese and English. Location: B1 Jianguomen Nandajie, Dongcheng District. Just inside eastern gate of Golden Dragon Apartment. Southwestern corner of Jianguomenqiao. |
