The regional code(That's Shanghai)
Updated: 2007-10-25 11:05
Tattoos, body-piercing, and general self-mutilation never went out of fashion in punk circles. Nor did angry youths wearing t-shirts with the names of their favorite band. If you’re more than 25, the likes of Coal Chamber, Fear Factory, and Cradle of Filth may not be familiar. In any case, the thusly garbed Children of the Revolution dominate the floor at 021, a grungy, angst-filled bar, with graffiti-strewn walls and blood red lighting. Like most bars of this ilk, the patrons come for the music, here, the cream of local hardcore bands. While punk rock is sometimes all talk and no action, 021 is a bar that practises what it preaches. If the frenzied atmosphere and RMB 25 beers have got you pumped, there’s an onsite body artist who will tattoo (RMB 300 plus) or pierce (RMB 150 plus) whatever area you desire. Incidentally, 021 takes its name from Shanghai’s telephone area code. Shanghai calling! Eat your heart out. 021 |
