Toby Wang - Mars Man

After an education in graphic and fashion design, Toby Wang launched his own label, Mars Man, in September 2005. His futuristic, all-white store is located on Xinle Lu, and caters to that ever-popular young urban male look – street style with a touch of class. "My summer collection focuses on white t-shirts with cool, original prints. They are attractive and simple," says Wang.

No wonder he is a regular at MUJI, the Japanese retailer that sells simple, eco-friendly everyday products. MUJI may be abrand many are familiar with, but this summer the store takes on extra significance, because, in case you hadn't noticed, green is the key word for fashion this season. Levi's launched their eco-conscious organic cotton red label jeans, and American designer Anya Hindmarch's reusable shopping bags saying "I'm Not A Plastic Bag" are all the rage. With their philosophy of reducing and eliminating waste, MUJI's recycled yarn tees and socks should be the essential items for conscientious fashionistas this year.

Goodfella is another place where young guys can get urban-cool, affordable tees, says Wang. "It's a select shop carrying streetwear labels from overseas, like 2K and Upper Playground. It's also a gallery where both established and fresh-faced artists showcase their talents." If you want something a little more exclusive, Wang recommends I.T. "It carries a good selection of high end labels, like A.P.C. and Martin Margiela." For those only after the real top-notch stuff, Wang advises they check out the newly opened boutique Joyce, which stocks brands like Comme des Gar?ons, Voktor & Rolf and John Galliano.
