A town to have fun

(That's Shanghai)

With dreams of high-rolling men bringing their high-maintenance dates to sip high-priced cocktails, ambitious local investors continue to pour money into new mega-club endeavors. Bearing this in mind, Fantown might be termed desire personified.

Located in the artsy, up-and-coming Redtown, the multi-faceted club has two VIP rooms, 10 couches and two bars. Pink and black tones dominate the interior, setting the stage for a high-class lounge and club experience. Completing this image are the expensive but smartly-served cocktails, like the Classic Cosmopolitan, poured with lemon vodka (RMB 65). The drinks are in keeping with the club's ambitions, a triumph of style over substance. That said, we prefer less garnish and more booze.

On the night we visited, the cavernous space was less than heavily populated, at least by Shanghai standards. Let's hope Fantown soon releases an action-packed events calendar to draw in the fans.
