Fusion - Wasabi Ya

"This place must have multiple menu disorder," mumbled my dining companion as we clumsily leafed through a profusion of paper. For the indecisive, Wasabi Ya is your dream come true-or your worst nightmare.

Euphemistically calling itself a "fusion" restaurant, it serves up German, Italian and Japanese fare. That's right, get sauerkraut, tuna sashimi and seafood risotto with a side of California rolls.

"The United Nations of foods have convened at our table," we joked as the plates piled up. Despite the fact that our sashimi (RMB48) was icy, the risotto (RMB45) slightly undercooked and the California rolls (RMB48) skimpy on avocado, the serviceable waitstaff and ambiant mix of mahoganies, deep reds and cream were a fair trade-off.

Moreover, given its location in Wang Jing, Wasabi Ya will be a welcome addition for locals tired of trekking into the city for a slice of civilization.
