Pho your delight

Phostar quietly overlooks Hongmei Lu, welcoming diners searching for "light cuisine" and colorful surroundings.

Our combination platter (RMB 68) presented us with Vietnamese staples¨Csummer rolls with fermented soybean paste, pleasantly delish spring rolls, palatable sugar-cane prawns, beef skewers and fried chicken wrapped in pandan leaves. The Pho, cornerstone of Vietnamese fare, did not disappoint. With well-done flank (RMB 38) it was as sweet and brackish as we'd hoped. But the real star of our meal was the refreshing b¨˛n (RMB 28) packed with tons of greens, crushed peanuts and charred garlic. The Banana and sago pearls (RMB 12) had too much cream and not enough sweetness, but the dessert was pleasant and the portion just right.

Phostar may not be a four-star hideaway, but the fresh and rejuvenating menu makes it worthy of another visit. Perfect for: a light meal in a bright setting.
