Boozers can belly up to the bar and perch on square-shaped wooden stools, grab seats on the pillow-lined wooden benches or stretch out on the establishment's traditional kang beds. A trip to the restroom requires crossing an angular arched bridge that spans a serene stream brimming with swimming coy. Sangria Club comes to Beijing's night scene courtesy of Bai Feng, the mastermind behind Souk, and he hasn't strayed too far from the familiar with his latest nightlife installation. Management says it hopes the development resulting from the construction of the new American embassy and several shopping centers in the area would increase traffic of their target demographic: 25- to 40-year-old foreigners. So far, Sangria Club's business hasn't gone beyond the soft-opening stage, so its menu is yet to be set. However, management says most of the munchies will come from the Iberian Peninsula. The establishment's selections of beer range from 15-40 yuan and include 10 German brews. Befitting its namesake, the nightspot serves superb Sangria (30 yuan per glass) and pours pots of the enticingly exotic absala. Sangria's masterfully mixed cocktails range from 30-40 yuan. While the date for Sangria Club's official launch is yet to be set, management expects it will throw open the doors within the next two weeks. Until then, those who are looking for something Moor in Beijing's bar scene can stop in for a sip of Sangria and preview the Mediterranean mlange of Zaoying's newest nightspot. Address:29 Zaoying Lu, Chaoyang District. |
