Oozing sax appeal(Beijing weekend)Updated: 2007-05-17 09:00
No one musician nor one composer/conductor is selected for more than one year. The musicians will be selected with regard to the representation of as many nationalities as possible. Every year new musicians, composers and conductors imbue the European jazz traditions with new life. As of now, 190 young talented musicians, 11 conductors and 45 composers have participated. EYJO tours three weeks of every year, presenting its many audiences with concerts of musical magic. Traveling the length and breadth of Europe, Brazil and Canada, the orchestra has fulfilled its mission and made Europe swing through 11 successive musical journeys. This year EYJO for the first time is going to Asia, touring China for one week. This year's choice of conductor is Dane Lars Moller (pictured). Inspired by American jazz influences mixed with the unique melodic tradition of Scandinavia, the EYJO '07 show presents new compositions and fresh re-arrangements of the groundbreaking and sax-playing comet. Compelling rhythmic intensity mixed with a broad emotional expression marks his contemporary and original music. A part of the new music will be based on themes and inspiration from the great Chinese music tradition. Time: 8pm, May 18. |
