Stretching over two floors in Jianwai Soho, Surface offers unique and stylish clothing and accessories for both men and women.

Taking layering to new levels, their range of garments sees fabrics draped and folded in a variety of ways, and volume exploited to its fullest potential. The unique designs however, remain faithful to the superb cut of the clothes, ensuring a flattering finish. Items here are mainly understated - colors are earthy and subdued - and are made with high quality materials. Prices vary wildly, from the bargain finds (matte black sequined waistcoat a la Kate Moss for RMB 398) to the ludicrously overpriced (blue linen dress, RMB 2,980). There are a couple of dodgy lace-heavy items lurking among the racks, but the unearthing of a gem - such as the fantastic soft leather metallic belts (RMB 398) - is enough to justify repeat visits to the store.
