Our hunt for Bull and Bear took on tones of a video game quest: hurdling over a small construction site, past a row of never-occupied storefronts and into the bar... we sipped the first beers triumphantly, as if we were liberating an imprisoned princess.

drink list features a number of German liqueurs, and with Kilkenny on tap (.5L, RMB 60) the owners are clearly trying to bring a bit of their Bavarian homeland to Pudong. Now, while we can't say for sure, we imagine that few German bars are as unnervingly well-lit as this one-and that fewer still are staffed with a gang of giggling servers, enthralled by a simple foosball machine.

In the end, the 2-for-1 happy hour beers might make this castle worth conquering, if you happen to be in the neighborhood.
