Many people grew up with the music of Taiwanese pop singer Julie Sue who won hearts with unforgettable songs of the 1980s, says Chen Qing, whose mother still remembers. Now Sue sings for a generation on Mother's Day.

Taiwanese singer Julie Sue, a symbol of a generation, will bring back memories as she stages her first Shanghai solo concert on Mother's Day May this Sunday at the Shanghai Grand Stage.

Born in 1952, Sue has been performing for 39 years and her songs have been deeply etched into the memories of a generation.

More than 20 years ago, with her magnetic voice and stylized black outfit, Sue grabbed music lovers with her fresh pop music style, full of passion, explosive power and sincerity.

"It is a good opportunity for me to meet all the fans who accompanied me all the way along," Sue says. The generation that grew up with her music has become the parents, still cherishing their love for Sue's music.

Dong Zihua, a fan of Sue's songs for more than 13 years, bought the first ticket to the concert. He finally met his idol. "Sue is like a sister. Her songs accompanied me all these years, whenever I am sad or happy," Dong says.

In 1976 in Hong Kong, Sue distributed her first album in English, "Disco Baby." Since then, she has become famous for melodies of the 1980s, such as "Follow the Feelings," "The Same Moonlight," "Hand in Hand" and "Dear Child."

Thirty-two of her albums have achieved gold status, as have more than 20 popular songs. She has won more than 25 medals and honors.

She changed her musical style in the 1990s. "With the release of 'Hand in Hand,' I started another stage of my career, my style was not so tough and sharp," she says.

In the past several years, Sue has been quiet. She says that she has been spending time with family, her son.

Sue, now a single mother, wants to share her love with her son. "My son encourages me to have this show. He told me he has grown up and I should take more time caring about my own career," she says. "I sincerely invite all my fans to come and share our good memories."

Many of Sue's fans are parents themselves, so it's a good time for them to come with old friends.

The show will mainly present Sue's Mandarin songs. Three generations of famous male singers - Will Pan, A Xin and Emil Chou, all from Taiwan - will join Sue. Chou will perform "Please Follow me," A Xin sings "The Same Moonlight" and Pan "I Want to Know You Better."

Now, Sue is at a new stage in life. "Leaving home and working hard to earn a living is the theme of our time. I want to sing a song about women becoming the support of a family, of a man. This is an open invitation to composers," she says.
