Fresh focus on Hunan harvest(China Daily)Updated: 2007-04-11 10:27
The restaurant's Chinese name is Jinxiangyou, which is a rare grapefruit planted in western Hunan Province. The name reflects the restaurant's principle of using only free-range and organic products. The manager claims to purchase all materials directly from farmers and fishermen in Hunan and Guangdong, which helps to guarantee the safety and freshness of the foods. The restaurant offers Cantonese dishes, as well as seafood, but its Hunan foods are better choices, with both chefs and the owner coming from Hunan. Hunan cuisine adopts a lot of fresh, or briefly marinated chilli in foods. It is known as a very tasty, slightly spicy food style. But here a special tea tree oil is adopted in the frying of most Hunan style dishes, which helps to relieve people who worry about fat. The farmer's steamed pork , for example, is made of tasty pork chops containing a large amount of fat, but the dish tastes more elastic than usual and does not feel so greasy. Another major attraction of the restaurant is its design by Venezuelan architect, Antonio Ochoa-Piccardo, who also designed and owns Garden of Delights, a Latin-American restaurant with fine inner decor. The public area is decorated with red and golden colors. Bright yellow lamps, a variation of Chinese lantern, are visually pleasing and striking. The red chairs are comfortable to sit in. Some recommendable dishes: preserved beef with white chilli ;braised beef with moyu in casserole, made of natural plant root ; goose liver with tea tree mushroom ; Liaoning sea cucumber with abalone sauce ; and hand-torn fish from Liuyang, Hunan . Presently the menu is in Chinese only. But a new, bilingual menu is said to come out in a month. Average spending: around 150 yuan per person. Opening Time: 10:30am-2:30pm, 5-9pm. |
