Exceed our expectations(That's beijing)Updated: 2007-03-27 09:28
Those who enjoy the over-the-top romance of Lan's interior will love the copycat decorating in Sunflower. Decked out in plush armchairs and serviced by efficient wait staff, it's actually not a bad place for an intimate gathering. The kitchen makes a passable attempt at fine-dining with elaborate presentations and quality ingredients. The lobster bisque (RMB 68) was watery but flavorful, while the Spanish-style marinated pepper salad (RMB 48) was thoughtfully presented, featuring crisp tangy peppers. Lobster and mushrooms in a puff-pastry (RMB 98) was curiously sweet but could have been acceptable if it weren't garnished with an intrusive mayonnaise-like sauce. But really, food takes a back-seat when the lighting is just-so, the wait staff are trained to be mind-readers, and Edith Piaf is torch singing in the background. Sunflower |
