For the first time, contemporary dance genius Vaslav Nijinsky's tragic life will be staged in Beijing on March 10. Born in 1889, Nijinsky is regarded as a legend in the history of dance. With his extraordinary technique and innovative choreography, he mesmerized and shocked the ballet world of the early 1900s and was regarded as the "god of modern dance".

However Nijinsky's meteoric rise to fame was short lived. At 29, at the height of his fame, he began a descent into madness. Nijinsky remained insane for the last 30 years of his life, never dancing again.

Based on The Diaries of Vaslav Nijinsky, the City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC), from Hong Kong, will use dance to explore the inner world of the genius when he was on the outer edge of reason.

"The dance will display the hallucinations, dreams and desires of the master to show his passion for art and life," said Xing Gang, choreographer and lead dancer of the show.

As a top dancer and choreographer, Xing was listed as the Outstanding Modern Dance Artist in the Young Chinese Performers Series by Radio Television Hong Kong in July. Winning numerous awards, including Gold Award in the Male Solo Class of the Paris International Dance Competition and the Hong Kong Dance Alliance Dance Awards, Xing captures the audience's attention not only with his powerful, profound choreography but also his charisma.

A top production in 2006, this ballet by Xing Liang has been regarded as "one of the most representative and stunning dance pieces by the CCDC".
