AN evening of hardcore electro is in store tomorrow night as DJ,
remixer and producer Tom Neville brings his magic touch to BonBon.
With the momentous success of underground smash "Just F**k" back in 2004, a
track that received support from the likes of Zane Lowe, Mary Ann Hobbs, Annie
Mac and Pete Tong, the Brit mixmaster is now moving into a new stage of his
career.
At the tender age of 17, Neville started an acid techno band, Sentience, with
two friends. A year later they signed to Media Records. Despite a hectic
schedule traveling across the country with their live show most weekends,
Neville managed to complete a degree in music technology at the University of
Hertfordshire. When the band split up due to the usual musical differences, he
moved to London and became a studio engineer for Media.
It was then that Neville started working on his own tracks. His track with
Media - featuring his own vocals - was released on UMM in the UK. The track
garnered amazing support from the Radio 1 specialist DJs who named it a "future
classic." Fatboy Slim's Norman Cook gave the track an incredible 11/10 and the
cheeky vocals were sung in thousands of clubs worldwide. The year was capped off
with a prestigious award: Neville was named best breakthrough producer at the
House Music Awards.
Both Buzz Chart and Billboard Dance Chart number ones quickly followed (in
fact Neville's remixes have earned him a total of eight Buzz Chart number ones).
His remix of Mylo's "Destroy Rock & R oll" was so popular it was included on
Mylo's album of the same title and Neville's feisty electro-house mix of Studio
B's "I See Girls" (which he originally did in 2003 for the now defunct Multiply)
became a worldwide hit.
Indeed, Neville is one of the most sought after remixers today, with acts
including New Order and Ladytron having recently sought his reworks. And with
support from the likes of Tong, DJ Sneak, Ewan Pearson, Nic Fanciulli and Tom
Stephan, a Buzz Chart number one and a Billboard Dance Chart number one in the
United States, he has put himself firmly on the map.
As well as turning his magic hands to remixing and production, Neville has
launched his own imprint, Love Minus Zero, a launch pad for future stars of the
electronic age.
Singles "Dark Disco Place" under his own moniker Xavier Laceour and the
"Invisible EP" by Tommy Four Seven have been wooing the UK music press, from
Mixmag to DJ, i-DJ, One Week To Live, Future Music, AXM, Bent and the Gay Times.
DJ support comes in the form of Tiga, Tong, M.A.N.D.Y, Pearson, Trevor Jackson
and Laurent Garnier and many more.
In celebration of the success of the new label, LMZ have thrown regular
parties to coincide with its releases at the palatial Great Eastern Hotel on
Liverpool Street in London. The parties have thus far welcomed into the fold DJs
such as Serge Santiago, Gower Ramsey, King Roc and Tommy Four Seven, as well as
live acts, the Neville-produced Chilinski, pop-grime hot stuff Man Like Me and
punk-funksters Spektrum. The next party will be held in the Masonic Temple on
February 16 for a LMZ Valentine's special, with Chaim from Tel Aviv, the next
artist to release on the label.
Neville is also no stranger to impressive remix action. He has recently lent
his magic remix touch to hot new fodder "Don't Be Shy" by new pals Spektrum, as
well as new mixes for the huge breakthrough band, The Feeling and cult sensation
Mika.
Neville also DJs worldwide and last year alone, he completed tours of South
America, South Africa, Australia, France, Eastern Europe as well as Russia. If
that isn't enough, look out for his new Love Minus Zero Podcast which is
available from your nearest iTunes store or just come to BonBon tomorrow night.
