Cozy French leisure

The newest entry on Dagu Lu's renovated dining strip, the cozy French cafe Nova continues to raise the bar for this out- of-the-way dining destination.

The stylish interior and friendly service are a welcome find, especially when paired with reasonable prices. Nova is particularly adept at soups, and we recommend both the pistou provencal, a vegetable consomme topped with pesto (RMB 38) and the soupe de poissons et fruits de mer (seafood soup, RMB 45). Our beef carpaccio (RMB 58) arrived nearly frozen, but we warmed up to the tuna en croute (RMB 88) and our dessert moelleux au chocolat noir (RMB 48). The buy-one, get-one-free happy hour drink specials didn't hurt either.

The menu is still being fine-tuned and expanded as the restaurant finds its feet, but Nova is definitely worth a repeat visit.

Open time: 12nn-2am. All cards.
Location: 418 Dagu Lu, by Shimen Yi Lu
Tel: 13817866156
Cost for two (excluding drinks): RMB 240
