True to its namesake, Club Fusion beautifully blends all of the essential elements of a decent disco. With booming techno, pricey VIP booths, ubiquitous neon and smartly dressed and hyperactively attentive staff, this new kid on the block quickly gained a good reputation after opening in late August.

With ambitions as grand as its layout, Fusion poised itself to become the epicentre for electronic music in Beijing, scheduling movers and shakers such as the dirty house DJ duo Astro&Glyde and progressive-house spinster DJ Sasha. Electro-geeks were left wondering if Fusion could recover from the backlash against the club after Sasha failed to show for his first performance there in October. However, local legendary music meister Mr Wang helped the establishment weather the storm, and by the time the clouds had cleared, Fusion had effectively verified its buoyancy in Beijing's sea of mega-clubs.

Upon entry, clubbers are escorted up a grandiose marble staircase by tuxedo-clad staff to the disco area. Here, omnipresent neon brings to light the spirit of the dance in the otherwise jet black dance area. In a way that would make Bill Haley smile, dancers shake their stuff to eardrum-rattling techno as they roll their hips on the dance floor.

The nightclub feel really takes shape on the walls of Fusion, where a myriad of polygons of all colours of the rainbow flash in mosaic patterns. Every square inch of the walls and pillars shimmer with flashing waves of ruby rectangles, golden hexagons and purple circles.

Those who are tired of the high-end nightclub circuit with its overpriced drinks and overdressed clientele will be pleased to find Fusion's prices and tee-shirt-and-jeans crowd refreshingly down-to-earth.

The admission-free establishment's boogying bartenders serve beers which range from 30-35 yuan and cocktails which run 40-60 between slick dance moves. For those who would prefer something more comfortable than the general seating area's faux snakeskin stools, VIP rooms range from 800-1,680 yuan on weeknights and 1,000-1,980 on weekends. Since Fusion attracts a mostly Chinese clientele, the second floor warehouses a series of KTV rooms.

Conveniently located between Sanlitun Bar Street and Gongti's North Gate, Club Fusion offers all of the energy of the atomic process it shares its name with.
