What's with names of clubs these days? For what ever reasons, these names no matter how bad they can be stick to you like annoying tunes that you can't get out of you head. And if it sticks, it works the purpose. What does the G stand for? Hum I must remember to ask Matsume.

Another Club opening I hear you all saying. Hailing originally from Hangzhou where it's touted as one of the best clubs is opened its doors and joining the multitude of clubs to have opened its doors this year.

In its media release Club G Plus confidently classes itself as "the epitome of modern night life in China. Club G Plus caters for exuberant variety of clientele, with a concept of nightlife in line with the freshest on international trends."

Brave and ambitious words, as expected with most marketing material in China especially in the nightlife business, however it remains to be seen in this cutthroat industry whether its expectations can be met. Reflecting on the article 'Clubs Clubs Clubs' we see that G Plus is another club along a long pedigree of "BIG CLUBS". Having seen the club first hand, my initial thought was that it wasn't as big as I had expected. But after seeing pass the maze of dark mirrors and truss like lighting and the upper floor, it was indeed quite large. Some thought had went into the design as I can foresee this clubs being able to cater to the varied clientelle, whether you¡¯re a dice roller or you are the 'Dancing Queen'.

With the big Chivas display by the entrance, one can't help but immediately imaging the night's sound effects to be plagued by dice rolling whisky induced gangs of fun loving crowds and their sweet looking company. The aesthetics apart, Club G Plus also incorporates some of the world¡¯s leading audio visual and lighting equipment (I can hear you all muttering in your heads, yeah bring on the LED wall). As with the trend these days, there is also an outdoor terrace, although it doesn't have the view of the Bund, it's like the mini me of terraces, which actually quite fitting for a venue in Xin Tian Di.

To it's credit Club G Plus (HangZhou and Shanghai) has secure one of the stars of Shanghai's DJ world in DJ Calvin as its in-house DJs and musical director. Since the Old DKD days, I've always felt privileged to be able to just rock down the road to shake my booty. 'DJ Calvin has had many accolades receiving awards and industry recognition and is touted as one of the most gifted DJs in China'.

Looking at the line up it has even before it opens its doors looks promising with the likes of Infusion and DJ Judge Jules, but hang on are all the other clubs bringing big names as well? In Shanghai we have been overwhelmed with big name DJs constantly coming. Almost every week we have at least 2 big name DJs playing in various clubs, which leads me to believe that, the people now don't really care.
